 Wood occupations & construction

Wood occupations is a local skills sector shortage area which, if not invested in, will decline, as employers will find it increasingly difficult to source employees with the right skills to carry out the roles required.

Investing now in the training of young people in this important vocational area is imperative, especially as standards on building sites are becoming more rigorous every day and fully-trained and qualified personnel have become a necessity.

There are many job roles in the furniture making industry, ranging from small companies making bespoke furniture, using traditional hand-finished methods, to larger companies mass producing furniture. Past trainees have worked in areas such as boat yards, furniture restoring and shop fitting environments.
